Building San Rafael’s Future

Robert’s Priorities

  • Transparent and Responsive Local Government

I’m committed to clear communication, listening carefully, and making decisions openly. I’ve spent years working collaboratively with neighbors, hearing concerns, and acting to improve government while on the Point San Pedro Road Coalition. On the City Council, I will continue these conversations so we can ensure City Hall works for us.

  • A Thriving Downtown

Generations of San Rafael families all want the same thing—a healthy local economy that invites a better sense of community and supports our small businesses. I will be responsive to the needs of our small businesses so that City Hall is a partner and not an obstacle for those who invest in our community.

  • Thoughtful Housing Solutions and Placemaking

Common sense housing and mixed-use development in downtown that meets our community needs while valuing San Rafael’s neighborhood character and infrastructure limits. I will apply my experiences as a lawyer and Marin County Planning Commissioner to ensure that the creation of new housing in San Rafael improves the city for all of us.

  • Safer Streets and Reliable Infrastructure

I will build on my years of experience improving the safety of our roads, sidewalks, and crosswalks. As the Roadway Chair of the Point San Pedro Road Coalition, I developed relationships with community, City, and County stakeholders to repave roads and sidewalks, conduct speed surveys, and fund crosswalk improvements. I am committed to delivering practical transportation solutions that reflect how people actually move through our city.

  • Homelessness

I support housing-first solutions that are compassionate and humane. I am committed to ensuring that City Hall participates in early public engagement so that our community is informed and heard before decisions are made. San Rafael must address issues like homelessness and panhandling if we want to support a more vibrant local economy.

  • Climate Resiliency

I will strengthen San Rafael’s resilience to flooding, wildfire risk, and sea level rise through city planning, investment, and public-private partnerships to protect our people, property, and public resources. As a father of my own young family, I am committed to long term planning and solutions to strengthen San Rafael’s climate resilience.

  • Protecting Home Insurance Access

Home insurance availability is becoming a real challenge for San Rafael families. While the City can’t regulate insurers, I will focus on reducing wildfire risk at the neighborhood level, strengthening emergency access and infrastructure like public utilities and cell service, and working with the state and insurers to keep coverage available and affordable. As a former Deputy Attorney General, and a City and County Commissioner, I have the right set of experiences working across agencies to protect our insurance and properties.

  • Reducing Traffic Congestion

“Traffic was horrible today” should be a less common conversation starter in San Rafael. I will focus on practical solutions like safer street designs, better signal timing, and improving walkability and public transit options so that our roads work better for everyone. Housing plays a role as well, reducing long commutes to help reduce congestion.

  • Beautification

A clean, welcoming city reflects pride in our community. I support investments in landscaping, street maintenance, canal and lagoon dredging, and public spaces like our City entrances to improve our City’s character and make it a better place to live, visit, and gather. As a member of the San Rafael Public Art Review Board, I have a track record of supporting beautification projects throughout the city and will continue to support more beautiful clean spaces on the Council.

I would love to hear from you about issues that matter most to your life in San Rafael.
