Meet Robert

Husband. Father. Public Servant.

Robert Sandoval is California born and raised, and believes local government should work for families, neighborhoods, and everyday people.

Robert and his wife Linda chose San Rafael to raise their family for its vibrant communities, safe neighborhoods, and beautiful outdoor spaces. Robert is running to bring thoughtful and community-centered leadership to City Hall.

Delivering Results for San Rafael

Robert has a strong record of public service as:

  • Marin County Planning Commissioner

  • Chair of the San Rafael Park & Recreation Commission

  • Board Member on the San Rafael Public Art Review Board

  • Director of the Point San Pedro Road Coalition

Robert works on practical improvements that make a difference in people’s daily lives. He has fought to:

  • Deliver San Rafael’s first-ever Parks Master Plan to guide and fund future improvements

  • Secure funding for safer crosswalks along Pt. San Pedro Road for kids, families, bikers, and people with disabilities

  • Partner with City and County leaders to resurface the East San Rafael corridor

  • Advocate for landscaping improvements at Fire Station 55 to beautify the neighborhood

  • Coordinate with the community and City staff to maintain sidewalks and median landscaping along Pt. San Pedro Road

  • Approve new affordable housing as a Marin County Planning Commissioner, balancing community character, safety, and environmental impact

  • Support public art installations as a Public Art Review Board Member to enhance shared spaces

Legal Experience

Robert received his JD from the University of Chicago Law School, and BA from Occidental College.

He served as a Deputy Attorney General for the California Department of Justice under Attorneys General Kamala Harris and Xavier Becerra, and was the recipient of the California Attorney General’s Award for litigation defending DACA recipients against the Trump Administration.

He is a former senior associate at Morrison & Foerster, where he represented and advised Apple and Meta, alongside a robust pro bono docket representing victims of civil rights violations and domestic abuse.

He was a federal judicial clerk for two judges in the Northern District of California, and is currently senior legal counsel for $20B digital asset and fintech company.

Rooted in San Rafael

Robert and his wife, Linda, are raising their two energetic toddlers in East San Rafael, where they are actively involved in their HOA and preschool communities. In their free time, they like to take walks along the Pt. San Pedro esplanade, and might be spotted at Andy’s Local Market, shooting hoops at their community basketball court, or hitting golf balls at the Peacock Gap Golf Club.

Robert was born and raised in California by his Mexican American father from East LA, and his Jewish American mother from Geyserville. Both were lifelong public servants and engaged leaders in civic organizations. Growing up mixed-race, Robert learned early on how public service can bring different people and perspectives together.

He was raised to believe public service isn’t just something to talk about — it’s how to live your life.
