Meet Robert

Robert is a husband and father of two kids, an experienced attorney in the tech sector, and a dedicated public servant working to make San Rafael and Marin County a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

He and his wife, Linda, chose to move to San Rafael to start their family in 2020 for its beautiful outdoor spaces and family-friendly community. They live in the Peacock Gap neighborhood, where Robert is a community leader pursuing thoughtful and pragmatic service to San Rafael.

Robert delivered on plans to improve parks and public spaces for people of all ages as Chair of the San Rafael Park & Recreation Commission.

During Robert’s tenure on the Commission, the Parks Department completed its first ever Parks Master Plan. The City is now constructing new playgrounds in Peacock Gap Park, preparing to resurface sport courts across City parks, and completing a more than decade planned project to bring artificial turf and a new basketball court to Pickleweed Park in the Canal.

Robert stood up for our community, pushing for improved medians and sidewalks in the Point San Pedro Road corridor and safer streets for pedestrians and cyclists.

As a Director on the Board of the Point San Pedro Road Coalition, Robert has worked with the City and County to highlight our community’s local voice in the maintenance and beautification of our streets. As many can attest, Robert is a thoughtful leader, hearing people’s concerns and views, and trying to achieve positive outcomes for his neighbors.

Robert has a track record of pragmatic policies on land use, housing, and infrastructure development that reflects the real needs of our families, businesses, and diverse community.

As a Commissioner, Robert supported Measure P for investment in a modern library and community center that can meet the needs of our families. He was recently appointed to an at-large seat on the Marin County Planning Commission, with the promise of tackling our housing affordability crisis, addressing climate resilience and sea level rise, and protecting our wildlife habitats and environment while maintaining equitable public access to our beautiful outdoor spaces.

Robert Sandoval represented California employees and state agencies as a Deputy Attorney General.

Robert served under the Kamala Harris and Xavier Becerra administrations. He was awarded the California Attorney General's Award for contributions to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Litigation Team.

Robert is an accomplished private sector attorney with nearly a decade of experience zealously advocating for clients, representing diverse client interests, and reaching consensus.

Robert earned his B.A. in Politics and Economics at Occidental College, and his J.D. at the University of Chicago Law School. After his years in California government service, Robert clerked for two federal judges and worked at the international law firm Morrison Foerster, where his clients were some of the largest tech companies in the world. He also handled a robust pro bono docket representing victims of civil rights and domestic abuse.

Now, Robert is legal counsel to a multi-billion dollar leading digital asset company, Kraken Digital Asset Exchange, proudly accelerating the global adoption of digital assets so that everyone can share in a future of financial inclusivity and freedom.

When he isn’t working or serving his community, Robert likes to spend time with his wife and two energetic toddlers, and might be spotted at Andy’s Local Market, shooting hoops at a local basketball court, or hitting golf balls on the range at the Peacock Gap Golf Club.
